The whole pale stone manor at Maryhill Estate, with the outdoor pool, daybeds and white parasols in front

Maryhill Estate: a mansion with a pool on the Öresund coast

A stately manor, a pool right in front of it, lavender on the lawn and music that starts in the car park. For one night in August, we felt like royalty.

The verdict

Few places make you feel this pampered. The manor, the two pools and the warm, personal welcome make Maryhill a place to celebrate something, or simply to feel like royalty for a weekend.

The mood starts before you even reach reception. Small lanes wind through the estate, and hidden speakers play soft music from the moment you step out of the car. The music follows you all over the grounds, past the lawns, the lavender and the pool, and sets the mood wherever you walk. Then the manor comes into view: pale stone, tall windows, columns at the entrance, and a turquoise pool right in front of it, lined with daybeds and white parasols.

We came for one night in August to celebrate a birthday. It is a real wow moment, and it never quite wore off.

The manor

A swimming pool in front of a real manor house is not something you see every day in Scandinavia. Swim a few lengths in the evening light, with the facade glowing above you.

The rooms

Our room was lovely, with a patterned headboard, soft linen and its own terrace opening straight onto the outdoor pool. Waiting for us was a small bag of sweets, a handwritten birthday greeting and an extra cooler filled with drinks. A small gesture, but exactly the kind of thing that makes a celebration feel personal.

From the terrace, it is only a few steps to the pool.

The Pool Club

In the newer part of the estate, under a glass roof, is the second pool: dark green water, daybeds in floral fabric, armchairs in soft green velvet, palms and a fireplace. There is a bar right by the pool, and they serve food and cocktails to your lounge bed.

The Pool Club

Make sure you order from the pool bar. Melon with chili, a beautifully made cocktail and a big daybed in front of that green pool: a little luxury we don’t get to enjoy nearly often enough.

Part of the spa is a relaxation room made for doing nothing at all: red sofas, daybeds in blue floral fabric along the windows, and a round, open fireplace in the middle of the room. On a cool day, this is where you want to be.

Breakfast with a view

In the morning, we took our coffee out onto a balcony above the outdoor pool. Fresh fruit, a croissant, and the whole estate waking up below us.

Around the estate

Maryhill sits in Glumslöv, on the Öresund coast between Helsingborg and Landskrona. We drove there. Walk the grounds in the evening: past the lavender, along the small lanes, and out to the wooden benches on the slope above the sea, where you can watch the sun go down over the strait.

Sunset

Our favourite way to end the day.

What we loved

  • The outdoor pool in front of the manor, especially in the evening
  • A room with a terrace straight onto the pool
  • Melon with chili and cocktails served to our daybed in the Pool Club
  • The birthday surprise: sweets, a handwritten note and a cooler full of drinks
  • The music that greets you in the car park

Worth knowing

  • You will want a car; the estate is in the countryside
  • The outdoor pool is at its best in summer, but the Pool Club is indoors
  • One night goes far too fast

Good to know

Maryhill is wonderful for couples who want to celebrate something special, and it must be magical for a wedding; the hotel can arrange that too. Really, it suits all adults. Our tips: set aside time for the Pool Club, swim in the outdoor pool in front of the manor, and take a walk around the estate at sunset.

A chance to feel like royalty for a very special weekend.
